If anyone had told me that New Mexico would EVER refuse to pass a Defense of Marriage type law--let alone defeating it in the Legislature four times in four years--I'd have said that they'd lost their little minds. I mean, we're talking a place where both the Catholic and Mormon churches are relatively powerful. (Although it does baffle me as to how the Mormon church can be both powerful and nearly invisible at the same time. They're very very good, I guess.)

• Prosecutorial misconduct: not just for big cities anymore (Albuq. Journal) - "The State's attempts to play games with the evidence and its obvious lack of candor with the Court, requires this Court to reluctantly halt the further prosecution of the Defendant," Judge John W. Pope said in a written opinion Thursday.
  Pope also wrote that the state's attempts to make deals with the witness and its "subsequent efforts to hide or obfuscate its dealings, rise beyond prosecutorial misconduct.
