- Methodists refuse to send their ministers to church trial
- OK, I'll admit it: this one confuses the heck out of me.
- In deliberate defiance of church policy, either 68 or 95 ministers officiated at one or more gay/lesbian commitment ceremonies last year (it's not clear from the story; both numbers are cited). Per United Methodist Church policy, a tribunal met to consider whether or not to bring the ministers up on charges.
- You'd think it would be a slam dunk, wouldn't you? I mean, the policy says, "Don't do this" and they did it to spite the policy. And yet the tribunal votes not to bring formal charges.
- Very peculiar. Nice, I think, but peculiar.

- New Mexico, Land of Liberal Enchantment
- Good gad! If anyone had told me that New Mexico would EVER refuse to pass a Defense of Marriage type law--let alone defeating it in the Legislature four times in four years--I'd have said that they'd lost their little minds. I mean, we're talking a place where both the Catholic and Mormon churches are relatively powerful. (Although it does baffle me as to how the Mormon church can be both powerful and nearly invisible at the same time. They're very very good, I guess.)
- I guess the unexpected does happen, every now and again.

- One man and Vermont
- The official title is "Gay marriage called a civil issue", but frankly, that's a misleading title. It's basically the story of one man's life and how he hopes to effect change in Vermont. Very terse--it's an AP story through Yahoo, after all--but still interesting.

- Project YES
- ""Project YES is a non-profit, educational agency dedicated to preventing suicide, homelessness and harassment among gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and ALL youth."
- I know that Project Yes has a particular focus, but they might want to clean up their mission statement a bit to better reflect that. The plain fact is, they aren't focusing on ALL youth; nor is that a flaw. They should stop waffling on their front page.

- Religious Delaration on Sexual Morality, Justice and Healing
- Wherein 850 clerics from various religions got together with SIECUS and announced a declaration of desired principles. Which sounds really nice until you realize there are somthing like 1500 clerics in Chicago alone. Still, it's worth the effort. Maybe their leadership will inspire others to join them.

- Risky behaviors on the rise
- It seems that the AIDS cocktails have made people feel that it's OK to engage in completely unprotected sex again.
- I can't say I'm even vaguely surprised, but you do hope, from time to time, that people actually have brains.

- Stopping anti-gay abuse of students in schools: a legal perspective
- "Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund provides this booklet to help the many students who are enduring the pain of anti-gay hatred and violence in public schools. It suggests steps for students, parents, family members, educators, and concerned citizens to join others who have begun to fight back against the hatred that causes young lesbians and gay men to attempt suicide at an alarming rate. Lambda has compiled this manual as an important extension to our victory in the first lawsuit to challenge anti-gay abuse in schools."

- The government changes its tune on AIDS drugs ... or not ...
- The government said that it would stop resisting outside efforts to lower the price of AIDS drugs, due to a report that counted AIDS as a threat to national security--33.4 million infected, most in subsaharan Africa. Two days later, the govt then turned around and demanded that Thailand stop pressing a compulsory manufacture license on Bristol Myers Squibb--for a drug on which the US government itself holds the patent.

- Voices by Deb Price: Million Dollar case sends a message to schools
- "Ninth grade. Jamie Nabozny's most vivid memory is of being attacked in a school restroom, knocked into a urinal and urinated on. That wasn't the first at-school assault on Jamie or even the most violent one. It just stands out, he says, as the most humiliating."
