- School Library Journal compiled a list of the most influential children's books of the past century. Not most popular, you understand, or best-selling. Not the decade or the year or the quarter-century. The WHOLE century. And "Influential", whatever they mean by that (they actually go into some extended explanation on that point).

- Lammy 2000: 12th annual Lambda Literary Awards finalists announced
- One of those things that makes me wonder what on earth I was reading this year. I've only read TWO of the books on this year's nominees list, and both of those were mysteries. (I sort of read a third one, but it was also mystery, and it was so harrowing in spots that I decided not to buy it. Not badly written, but ... there are limits to the abuse I can watch a character I like go through, I guess. But I digress.) An interesting list of nominees, my reading notwithstanding.

- Really, it is! I didn't know this was out there!
- I must admit to being both intrigued and somewhat apprehensive about the Books of Blood movie (you have to scroll down the page a bit to see the blurb). I mean, why does it matter that the directors are gay? The only book he's written with major gay content is Sacrament.
- Any road, be warned that most of the pages take some time to load; they're graphically heavy (although they don't always look it).

- For their January 2000 newsletter, Booksense (which may open someday), listed the 76 best new books.
- I actually own three of them, and I may give in and buy "Island of the Sequined Love Nun", just because of the damn title!

- L-Space, by the way, refers to Library Space, which, as any good librarian knows, folds in and around itself in ways Einstein would envy.
