Big Stink Over a Simple Link: Yet another case of Clueless Big Company Does Something REALLY Stupid.
That said, should they decide to enforce it, KPMG (no, I'm not linking to them) does, in fact, have a case against both Rettig and Wired, should they decide to pursue it. Linking to their site isn't against any law or regulation -- and if KPMG tried to pursue that, I suspect the judge would dismiss their case with prejudice. That said, posting their song, either just the lyrics or the whole thing in MP3 format, is blatantly illegal; it's a violation of the copyright of the person who wrote the music and the ones who hold the publication rights. (Not always the same, and in this case, almost certainly not.) For THAT they could go for him with no problem.
However, the fact that everyone with a web browser is laughing themselves sick at the very concept might restrain them, just a tad.
