Up in Dover, New Hampshire, population 26,084, hardly a counterculture capital with a covered bridge in its "downtown" center, high school seniors just elected two lesbians as yearbook "Class Sweethearts.'' [...] Nicole Salisbury and Ashley Lagasse, both 17, overwhelmingly led other couples when the yearbook staff conducted its annual "senior superlatives" survey. But when Principal Robert Pedersen heard that most of the senior student body voted for the lesbian couple, he declared the vote invalid because "the ballot asked students to choose one male and one female." Yesterday, Supt. Armand LaSelva said the original results will stand. Said Superintendent LaSelva, "Sometimes kids are more receptive to reality and tuned in to the 21st century than the rest of us.''
Yes, they do seem to be somewhat more open-minded in Dover than some in Massachusetts, don't they?
